The Volta River Authority (VRA), in collaboration with the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), has introduced a temporary load management arrangement for parts of the Sunyani area following a breakdown of a power transformer belonging to the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo).
In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, January 21, the two power utilities explained that the measure is necessary to regulate electricity demand while repair works are carried out and full transformer capacity is restored.
Under the arrangement, communities within the Sunyani enclave have been grouped into three zones, which will receive power supply at scheduled intervals during the period of load management.
The first group covers areas including Nana Bosoma Market, Newtown, Estate, Baakoniaba, Asufufu, Wawasua, Nanketwa, the Municipal area, Town Centre, Zinco, Airport, parts of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), St Mary’s and nearby communities.

The second group comprises Abesim Estate, Tanoso, Yamfo, Susuanso, GWCL, Abesim, Mayfair, Nkwabeng North, Odumase, Pastoral Penkwase, Synod NMTC and surrounding areas, while the third group includes Nimpong, Sunyani Technical University (STU), GETFund, Magazine, SUSEC, Dr Berko, St James, Glamossay, Nkrankrom, Fiapre, Dumasua, Mantukwa, Ayakomaso, Nsoatre and adjoining communities.
According to the schedule, on January 21 electricity will be supplied to Group Two from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Group One from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Group Three from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The rotation will change daily, with Group One supplied in the morning on January 22, followed by Group Three in the afternoon and Group Two overnight.
On January 23, Group Three will have power in the morning, Group Two in the afternoon, and Group One overnight.
VRA and NEDCo assured customers that the load management exercise is temporary and appealed for patience as efforts continue to resolve the transformer fault and restore normal power supply to all affected areas.
