Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have successfully contained a commercial fire that broke out at Madina Zongo Junction in Accra, preventing it from spreading to adjoining buildings.
The fire, which involved three shops located on the ground floor of a one-storey commercial building, occurred on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
The GNFS said it received a distress call at 4:41 pm, prompting the immediate dispatch of a firefighting crew from the Madina Fire Station, which arrived at the scene within two minutes.

With support from the Legon Fire Station, firefighters brought the blaze under control by 5:00 pm and fully extinguished it at about 5:25 pm, less than 45 minutes after the call was received.

Preliminary assessments indicate that one of the shops and its contents were completely destroyed by the fire, while two other shops suffered partial damage.
No injuries or fatalities were recorded.

The swift response by the combined firefighting teams prevented the fire from spreading to nearby structures, averting what could have been a major commercial disaster in the busy Madina area.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and investigations are ongoing.
