The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, has warned that results from any polling station found to have engaged in misconduct or irregularities during the party’s presidential primary on January 31 will be invalidated.
The caution followed the signing of a Peace Pact by the five flagbearer aspirants, an initiative aimed at promoting harmony, transparency and internal cohesion before, during and after the election.
Speaking in an interview, Mr Osei Owusu addressed concerns raised by one of the aspirants, Kennedy Agyapong, who had expressed reservations about a clause in the pact requiring aspirants to accept results from all polling stations.
Mr Agyapong referenced his experience in the 2023 presidential primary, where he alleged that three votes cast in his favour in a constituency were recorded as zero.
Responding to the concerns, Mr Osei Owusu said the issue had been discussed with the Electoral Commission (EC), stressing that both the NPP and the EC are committed to protecting the credibility of the process.
“The EC has assured that if any complaint is brought to their attention regarding untoward conduct at any polling station, they will not hesitate to cancel the election. I also affirmed that any conduct that undermines the integrity of the election will result in the cancellation of that station’s result,” he said in an interview with Channel One TV.
The NPP’s January 31 presidential primary will select the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections, marking a critical milestone in its preparations for the next national polls.
