Samuel Abu Jinapor, Member of Parliament for Damongo and a key member of the campaign team of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has endorsed him as the New Patriotic Party’s strongest candidate for the 2028 general election.
Mr Jinapor says he holds all five presidential hopefuls in high esteem, noting that he has worked closely with most of them at different stages of his political career.
He described Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Dr Bryan Acheampong as former cabinet colleagues, Kennedy Agyapong as a long-time friend, and Ing. Kwabena Agyepong as a respected party stalwart.
Despite his admiration for the other contenders, Mr Jinapor argued that the NPP must make a calculated and strategic decision if it hopes to return to power in 2028.
While acknowledging that any candidate would face a difficult electoral battle, he insisted that Dr Bawumia stands out as the party’s most viable option.
He cited the former Vice President’s extensive experience at the highest levels of government as a major advantage, noting that Dr Bawumia has been part of the party’s presidential ticket since 2008 and has remained at the heart of national leadership for nearly two decades.
Mr Jinapor also pointed to Dr Bawumia’s nationwide visibility and reputation as key strengths, describing him as a public servant of integrity with no record of corruption or scandal.
He further praised his track record in proposing practical ideas and solutions to Ghana’s economic and social challenges.
Highlighting leadership traits such as humility, composure and vision, the Damongo MP said Dr Bawumia has demonstrated the maturity and temperament required to lead the country and unify Ghanaians around a compelling national agenda.
“I think he has shown himself to be formidable. He has shown humility, and humility in Ghanaian politics is extremely important. He has shown the temperament to be President, and above all, he has demonstrated that he has a vision,” Mr Jinapor said in an interview with Channel One TV.
He added that while all five aspirants are qualified, the party must choose the candidate with the best chance of winning in 2028.
“If we truly want to win in 2028, then I believe our best shot should be Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he concluded.
