Former Assin Central Member of Parliament and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, says he is confident that the party’s ongoing presidential primaries will be conducted transparently and credibly.
Speaking to journalists at a polling centre in Assin Central in the Central Region, Mr Agyapong expressed optimism that the irregularities he alleged characterised the party’s 2023 flagbearer contest would not recur.
“I don’t believe we will see a repeat of what happened in 2023. We certainly hope it doesn’t happen. All of us have worked hard to put measures in place to prevent rigging, so I am expecting a fair contest,” he said.
He assured party members that unity would be his top priority should he win the primaries, stressing that cohesion within the party is critical as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.
“If I emerge victorious, I will work to bring the party together,” Mr Agyapong stated, adding that internal competitions, though often intense, must not result in lasting divisions.
He emphasised that regardless of the outcome, members must rally around the eventual winner, noting that disagreements and harsh words during campaigns should not push anyone away from the party.
Mr Agyapong also appealed to delegates to support his bid, urging them to turn out in large numbers and vote for him.
The NPP presidential primary is currently underway across the country, with five aspirants vying for the party’s flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections.
