Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed gratitude to his campaign team, parliamentary supporters, and party executives following his strong performance in the New Patriotic Party's presidential primaries held on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Speaking at his campaign's collation centre ahead of the Electoral Commission's official declaration of results, Dr Bawumia credited his success to the collective effort of his team.
"You're only as good as your team in these matters. And I can say without any fear of contradiction that I have been blessed with an excellent team," he stated.
Dr Bawumia specifically acknowledged his national campaign coordinators for their instrumental roles in the campaign.
"The campaign team, in general, everybody has contributed so much, and I cannot really thank everybody individually at the moment, but I will have time to thank everybody individually," he said.
The former Vice President reserved special praise for members of parliament who backed his candidacy, describing their support as "phenomenal."
"The MPs, I must say, who have stood by my side have been phenomenal in this contest. They've really supported, and they've delivered what they promised to do. I want to thank all the members of parliament who supported me," Dr Bawumia noted.
He also extended appreciation to party executives who helped organise the election, the Electoral Commission, security personnel, and the media for their respective roles in ensuring a smooth electoral process.
Dr Bawumia's remarks came as provisional results from across the country showed him maintaining a commanding lead over his four opponents: businessman Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Food and Agriculture Minister Dr Bryan Acheampong, former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
Over 211,000 delegates cast their votes at more than 300 polling centres nationwide in the keenly contested race to determine the party's flagbearer for future elections.
The Electoral Commission is expected to officially declare the final results once collation from all polling centres is completed, which is projected to confirm Dr Bawumia as the NPP’s next flag bearer.
