Former Minister for Food and Agriculture and flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Bryan Acheampong, has conceded defeat in the party’s presidential primaries and congratulated former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the official declaration of results.
The concession follows early results from several constituencies indicating that Dr Bawumia has opened a commanding lead in the race as counting continues nationwide.
In a video obtained by JoyNews, Dr Acheampong is heard making a phone call to Dr Bawumia to formally acknowledge the outcome and extend his congratulations.
“Well, I’m not feeling the same way as you. I’m just looking at my dashboard, and it’s telling me that you have dealt me a big blow,” he said.
“I want to take the opportunity to congratulate you and your team for such wonderful results. That’s politics.”
He stressed that unity remains paramount and assured the former Vice President of his readiness to support the party’s broader objective going forward.
“It is expected that myself and my team will come on board without hesitation to support the bigger agenda. But for now, it’s your day, so enjoy it,” Dr Acheampong added.
The NPP is expected to formally declare its flagbearer after the collation of results from all constituencies across the country.
