A special gala reception was held in London on Saturday, 31st January 2026, to honour two distinguished Ghanaian diplomats, H.E. Mrs. Sabah Zita Benson, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, and the Rt. Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.
The event was organised by the National Congress of Ghanaian Unions in partnership with Ten Talents Global and Access Media.
The ceremony attracted a distinguished audience, including His Royal Majesty, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, queens, members of the diplomatic corps, UK politicians, officials from the Ghana High Commission and the Commonwealth Secretariat, as well as representatives of the Ghanaian community.

Guests celebrated the achievements of both leaders, recognising their contributions to diplomacy, politics, community service, and international cooperation.
In her address, H.E. Mrs. Benson reflected on the significance of the evening as a celebration of unity, culture, and leadership.

She emphasised the critical role of the Ghanaian diaspora in promoting the country’s values and supporting national progress.
“True leadership is not defined by position, but by people, shared identity, and collective aspiration,” she noted.

Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey congratulated Mrs. Benson on her recent successful presentation of credentials to His Majesty King Charles III.
She also highlighted the enduring vision of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, in inspiring the Commonwealth, and spoke proudly of her Ga heritage, which she said shaped her assertiveness and commitment to public service.

Both leaders expressed gratitude to the organisers for the recognition and honour.

The evening concluded as a memorable celebration of Ghanaian heritage, leadership, and the enduring impact of women in diplomacy and public service, leaving guests inspired by the example set by the two trailblazers.
