The National Youth Authority has begun distributing tools to apprentices in Greater Accra as part of the National Apprenticeship Programme, a project aimed at equipping young people with employable skills and entrepreneurial opportunities.
NYA CEO Osman Abdullai Ayariga, Esq., highlighted the government’s commitment, stating, “President Mahama’s vision is clear: youth empowerment is not charity but an investment in our country’s future."
"This initiative ensures that financial barriers no longer prevent young people from accessing vocational training.”
He further explained that the programme, launched in Tamale last year, would scale from 10,000 to 100,000 apprentices annually by 2026, supported by a GH¢300 million allocation.
The beneficiaries received equipment such as sewing machines, dryers, safety gear, and toolboxes.
Mr Ayariga underscored the programme’s focus on inclusivity, noting that opportunities would extend to marginalised groups, including persons with disabilities and those in informal unions.
“We are committed to making this empowerment initiative truly inclusive,” he said.
Concluding, the CEO urged stakeholders to support apprentices.
“Together, we must nurture these young people, provide mentorship, and create opportunities for them to thrive. Every tool given today is an investment in a skilled, confident, and independent Ghanaian youth,” he said.
