Local authorities in the Mampong Municipality of Ashanti region have imposed an immediate ban on community members entering the town’s cemetery, following the shocking exhumation and mutilation of the body of the queen mother of the Frafra community.
The incident has sent waves of fear and outrage through the area.
According to municipal officials, unidentified individuals broke into the cemetery and looted the grave of the late queen mother of the Frafra community on Thursday, February 12, just days before the one year anniversary of her burial.
The body was discovered dumped within the cemetery grounds the following day, gruesomely missing its head.
The desecration said to be happening for the first time has left community members shaken and authorities scrambling to restore order and security.
The Assembly Member for Mampong Kyeremade, Kwame Nkrumah, speaking with JoyNews highlighted the measures being put in place to prevent further incidents and ensure residents’ safety.
"The assembly had an emergency meeting with the security personnel and those in charge of the cemetery to strengthen security in the area", he said.
A supervisor and grave digger at the cemetery, Kwame Afrah, confirmed that new security measures are being implemented, emphasizing that access will be strictly controlled, urging community members to respect the ban to prevent further incidents.
“From now onwards, we are going to tighten security at the cemetery to prevent unauthorized persons from entering", he stated.
The community, known for its peace and respect for tradition, has been left deeply unsettled.
“This kind of incident has never occurred here before. It has come to us as a big surprise. We urge authorities to perform the needed rituals, a resident commented".
Municipal authorities have assured residents that every effort is being made to bring the perpetrators to justice and to prevent a recurrence of such a disturbing act.
