What was meant to be a celebration of sporting talent at the District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru ended in violence after a confrontation broke out between students of two participating schools on Thursday, February 19.
The incident reportedly involved students from Obrachire Senior High Technical School and the Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS).
Eyewitness accounts indicate that tensions escalated during the event, leading to a physical altercation between the two groups.
In the course of the disturbance, a student from Obrachire was allegedly attacked by several students believed to be from SWESBUS.
The student was reportedly struck with sticks and hit with stones before bystanders intervened.
Clips circulating on social media capture portions of the incident, showing the injured student surrounded by a crowd amid the chaos.
He was subsequently taken to a health facility, where he is receiving treatment.
A teacher from Obrachire Senior High Technical School confirmed that the matter has been formally reported to the police, who have launched an investigation into the incident.
The development comes amid growing concern over rising violence at inter-school sporting events, following a recent stabbing involving a student at the Eastern Regional Inter-Schools Sports Festival in Koforidua.
