Police in the Central Region have arrested two men in Agona Swedru after intercepting 209 compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be narcotics.
They also rejected an alleged GH₵100,000 bribe from the suspects to look the other way.
The suspects, 28-year-old Godfred Acquah and 34-year-old Awudu Usman, were arrested at about 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, along the Agona Asafo–Kwesitwukwaa road.

Police retrieved 154 slabs of the suspected substance from a taxi cab with registration number GR 2932-26 in which they were travelling, cleverly concealed in four nylon sacks.
A subsequent search at Usman's residence at Asisim, a suburb of Agona Swedru, uncovered an additional 55 slabs, bringing the total quantity seized to 209. Police say Usman claimed ownership of the items found in his home.
According to the Central Regional Police Command, the suspects allegedly attempted to bribe their way out of trouble, offering GH₵100,000 to the arresting officers in exchange for their freedom. The offer was firmly declined.
The two suspects are expected to be arraigned before court to face charges.
