The Deputy Minister for Health, Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that natural health products used under MahamaCare meet strict safety and scientific standards.
She made the remarks through the Director for Traditional and Alternative Medicine, Dr Anastasia Yirenkyi, who represented her at the Natural Health & Wellness Expo 2026.
According to the Deputy Minister, natural health products can only be integrated into national healthcare delivery if they are properly tested and approved.
She said that such products must undergo rigorous scientific evaluation, be properly standardised, produced under Good Manufacturing Practices, and supported by reliable safety data approved by Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).

The Deputy Minister also expressed the government’s readiness to work with researchers, innovators, and manufacturers to promote evidence-based natural health solutions.
She noted that these efforts are important in helping the country respond to the growing burden of chronic diseases.
Prof. Ayensu-Danquah said MahamaCare offers a strong platform for collaboration and innovation. However, she made it clear that only products that meet established scientific and regulatory standards will be endorsed.
She added that this approach is necessary to protect public health and to build confidence in Ghana’s natural health industry.
