Karela United boosted their push for a top-four finish with a narrow victory over Asante Kotoko SC in the Ghana Premier League.
Karela entered the match in good form, having lost only once in their previous five league games and sitting seventh with 35 points.
Kotoko, who were fourth with 39 points before the match, also arrived confident despite a goalless draw against Vision FC in their last outing.
The visitors nearly opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Kwame Opoku forced a save from goalkeeper Daniel Afadzwu.
Afadzwu later produced a brilliant double save to deny Kotoko from a close-range effort and the rebound.
The match turned in the 40th minute when Kotoko defender Henry Ansu was shown a red card, leaving the Porcupine Warriors with ten men.
Few minutes later, Malik Abubakar took advantage of the situation to score the only goal of the match with a composed finish.
Kotoko pushed forward in search of an equaliser but struggled to break down the hosts’ defence.
Karela held on to secure all three points and continue their good run at home.
The result moves Karela to sixth place with 38 points, while Kotoko occupy the fifth position with 39 points.
Kotoko will next face Nations FC, while Karela travel to play Berekum Chelsea in their next league fixture.
