The Ghana Police Service has arrested eight Chinese nationals and two Ghanaians over an alleged cable theft and metal export syndicate targeting the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The arrests came after a police operation at the Kpone Industrial Area in Tema on Wednesday, March 4.
The raid, carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy, followed intelligence that stolen ECG cables were being processed at Sentuo Company.
Officers reportedly discovered around 70 workers dismantling cables and stripping metal components for compression into blocks, which were believed to be destined for export.
COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of CID, told journalists in Accra on Monday, March 9, 2026, that
“The Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters Operations Unit, together with the Ministry of Energy, has uncovered a large cache of stolen ECG service cables and arrested 10 suspects linked to a structured syndicate.”
She added that over 100 drums of cables suspected to belong to ECG were recovered during the operation.
Authorities said the scale and method of the theft indicate a long-term and organised operation. The Ghanaian suspects were identified as Samuel Ekpe and Priscilla Padu, while the Chinese nationals, who allegedly held managerial roles at Sentuo Company, are Yuxiaoting, He Jing, Xu Changjiu, Li Lei, Chen Jin, Zheng Ma, Wang Jian, and Bin Bin.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed that a 24-hour guard has been posted at the site to prevent any removal of materials, describing the operation as a major step in safeguarding national infrastructure. Investigations are ongoing to bring all parties involved to justice.
