The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Yusif Sulemana, has announced that the government will soon publish the names of individuals, companies and organisations that have applied for or acquired public lands across the country.
According to him, the decision forms part of efforts to promote transparency and accountability in the administration of state lands.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, March 11, Mr. Sulemana disclosed that more than 8,000 public land applications have already been reviewed, with some approvals revoked while others remain valid.
“Over 8,000 applications were reviewed. Some have been revoked, and those completed applications have not been revoked. There is a need for the public to know who has acquired what and how much was paid, and so very soon we will publish all the names of people who bought government lands,” he said.
He further explained that the move follows a directive approved by the Cabinet to make information on public land allocations accessible to the public.
“One of the key recommendations approved by Cabinet was the publication of all public land applications reviewed by individuals, companies and organisations. In line with this directive, the Lands Commission will publish both completed and uncompleted public land applications reviewed on a regional basis,” he added.
Mr. Sulemana noted that the initiative will allow the public to better understand how public lands are allocated and ensure that the process remains transparent and in the national interest.
