Patric Pfeiffer has been named in Ghana's squad for the upcoming international break, which forms part of the preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
The Black Stars are scheduled to play Austria and Germany in the latter part of March in one of three remaining windows before the World Cup begins.
Pfeiffer is one of four players called up for the upcoming assignments as the head coach continues to weigh his options.
Here are five things to know about the new boy Pfeiffer:
Developed in Germany’s disciplined system
He came through Hamburger SV and made his name at Darmstadt 98, helping them earn promotion to the Bundesliga. The centre-back has spent most of his time in the German environment with the loan move to Young Boys the only exception.
He once represented Germany
Before switching allegiance, he played for Germany at the U18 and U19 levels. Pfeiffer was a regular for Germany's youth teams during the early days of his career, but he eventually switched allegiance to represent Ghana in 2022.
A towering presence
At 1.96m, Pfeiffer is built like a classic centre-back. He dominates aerial duels and brings physical authority, something Ghana will need in central defence after the injury to Mohammed Salisu.
Received Ghanaian passport in 2024
Despite agreeing to switch allegiance to Ghana before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Pfeiffer only received his Ghanaian passport in 2024. His receipt of the passport cleared the final administrative hurdle that had delayed his eligibility despite his earlier declaration for Ghana.
