Police in the Ashanti South Region have arrested three persons in connection with the alleged killing of the Kusasi Chief in Asawase in July 2025.

The suspects have been identified as Jamil Usman, also known as Babamu or Guru; Suleman Yasir Arafat, alias Obasanjo; and Ashiadu Sumbeida, also known as Eyeshadow.

Addressing the media in Bekwai on Tuesday, March 17, the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, disclosed that arrangements are underway to transfer the suspects to the Ashanti Regional Police Command for further investigations.

He revealed that a key suspect, identified as Illiasu, also known as Abodam, is still on the run and appealed to the public for assistance. “We are urging members of the public to provide credible information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect,” he said.

DCOP Nyaaba further disclosed that a cache of weapons was retrieved during the operation.

“We recovered two AK-47 assault rifles, one pump-action gun, two pistols, and 44 rounds of .32 ammunition,” he stated, underscoring the scale and seriousness of the operation.

He noted that the arrests highlight the police’s intensified efforts to clamp down on violent crime in the area.

The Regional Commander expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for his continued support and commended officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and dedication. He also acknowledged the role played by the public in providing crucial information that led to the arrests.
