The Ministry of Health has stepped up efforts to improve leadership, accountability, and training standards across Health Training Institutions (HTIs) through a targeted corporate governance and capacity-building workshop.
Held under the theme “Strengthening Leadership and Institutional Excellence in Public Health Training Institutions,” the programme forms part of ongoing reforms to build a skilled, well-distributed, and future-ready health workforce.
Addressing participants, Deputy Minister for Health, Prof. Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, highlighted the critical role of HTIs in shaping the country’s healthcare system.

She said the need to go beyond increasing numbers and focus on training professionals with specialised skills to handle complex health conditions.
She also called for greater use of technology, innovation, and global partnerships to modernise health education and meet changing healthcare needs.
On financial management, she urged institutions to strictly comply with the Public Financial Management Act, stressing the importance of transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
Director of Human Resources at the Ministry, Fred Acheampong, underscored the role of strong corporate governance in building a resilient health system.

He said effective leadership goes beyond administration and requires accountability, regulatory compliance, and strategic oversight, supported by clear communication and data-driven reporting.
The Ministry says it remains committed to strengthening leadership across health institutions as part of broader reforms to improve training standards and healthcare delivery nationwide.
