President John Mahama has directed his office to obtain the full detailed report from the Fourth Estate following a recent exposé on procurement processes related to the award of contracts under the government’s Big Push programme.
Speaking at a dialogue with Civil Society Organisations at the Jubilee House, President Mahama acknowledged the media investigation, noting that while his administration has only seen snippets of the report, a comprehensive study of the various allegations will be conducted.
“Although we have seen snippets of the investigation from the media, I have instructed my office to obtain the full detailed report from the Fourth Estate and to conduct a study of the various allegations presented in the report,” President Mahama stated.
He clarified that sole sourcing is legal under certain circumstances under Ghana’s current procurement law.
However, he added, “We would all agree that open, transparent tenders are always preferable for achieving competitive pricing and value for money.”
The Big Push programme, a major infrastructure initiative, has attracted significant public interest, and the government’s response to the exposé will be closely watched by civil society and development partners alike.
The President assured that government action on the matter will be informed by both the Fourth Estate’s full report and the response from the Ministry of Roads and Highways.
