This Sunday's edition of JoyNews' The Law examined defamation suits against journalists.
Hosted by Samson Anyenini, the programme continued discussions on the legal implications of defamation actions involving media practitioners, under the theme: “Defamation Suits Against Journalists – Part II.”
The episode explored the legal boundaries of journalism, the rights and responsibilities of media practitioners, and the risks journalists face when reporting on sensitive issues in the public interest.
Guests who joined the discussion were Zakaria Tanko Musah, Esq., Lecturer at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC), and Samuel Alesu-Dordzi, Partner at AudreyGrey, who will offer legal perspectives on how defamation suits are handled and what journalists and media organisations must do to stay within the law while carrying out their work.
The programme comes at a time when issues of media freedom, responsible journalism and legal accountability continue to dominate public discourse, particularly as journalists increasingly face legal actions over stories deemed defamatory.
