President John Mahama has reflected on the dreams and aspirations of the eight state officials who died in the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash, saying they left behind many things they hoped to accomplish.

According to the president, "They (victims) left behind unfinished conversations, appointments they expected to keep, families they expected to return to and dreams they believe they still have time to fulfill; that is perhaps the greatest lesson this anniversary teaches us."

He was speaking at the national interfaith memorial service held in Accra to mark one year since the tragedy.

President Mahama added that the victims came from different backgrounds and carried different dreams, but were united by their commitment to serve Ghana.

He said the eight men boarded the helicopter that day with plans, responsibilities and aspirations they hoped to fulfil, unaware that the journey would become their last.

The President paid tribute to their dedication and sacrifice, noting that their contributions to the country would continue to be remembered.

The August 6, 2025 helicopter crash claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane-Boamah, Agriculture Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and six others, including three Ghana Air Force crew members, while they were travelling to the Ashanti Region in connection with the fight against illegal mining.
