Minority Leader and Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin has demanded answers from the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) over what he describes as a GH¢22 billion loss involving the state-owned institution.
Speaking at a Minority press conference in Parliament on Tuesday, August 18, Mr Afenyo-Markin said the Minority would continue to scrutinise GoldBod’s financial operations despite criticism from the institution’s management.
“So they must account for the GH¢22 billion loss. It must account for it because it amounts to causing financial loss to the state,” he said.
Mr Afenyo-Markin maintained that GoldBod was responsible for what he described as a financial loss to the state and insisted that the Minority would continue to raise the issue.
“GoldBod is responsible for causing financial loss to the state and the Minority will say this and say it firmly and boldly,” he added.
His comments come amid a growing dispute between the Minority and GoldBod management over the institution’s financial performance and whether it has incurred losses.
GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi has rejected claims that the institution has recorded losses, describing the allegation as false and pointing to GoldBod’s audited 2025 financial statements as evidence of its financial performance.
Mr Afenyo-Markin, however, said the Minority would not be intimidated or deterred by attempts to discredit its members, stressing that its responsibility was to demand accountability in the management of public resources.
“It doesn't matter the adjectives that they use to describe or to attack our personalities. We know, and the day of reckoning will come,” he said.
