Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, has authorised the release of GH¢370,000 from his share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) to support the rehabilitation and maintenance of badly deteriorated roads and related infrastructure across the constituency.

The intervention is aimed at improving mobility, reducing transportation difficulties and costs, and facilitating access to markets, schools, healthcare and other essential services while the constituency awaits broader interventions from the central government.

The allocation follows concerns raised by residents, farmers, traders and transport operators over the poor condition of several roads in Builsa South.

Roads to Benefit

According to the Office of the MP, the GH¢370,000 will be distributed across selected roads as follows:

• Doninga–Kanjarga Road — GH¢50,000
• Doninga–Siniensi Road — GH¢50,000
• Uwasi–Fumbisi Road — GH¢40,000
• Kanjarga–Fumbisi Road — GH¢100,000
• Nyambisa Road and Bridge — GH¢30,000
• Wiesi–Fumbisi Road — GH¢50,000
• Earlier emergency release for Uwasi–Fumbisi and Zamsa–Fumbisi roads — GH¢50,000

The earlier GH¢50,000 allocation was released to support emergency works on sections of the Uwasi–Fumbisi Road and Zamsa–Fumbisi Road following appeals from communities and road users.

Explaining the intervention, Dr Apaak said his decision followed firsthand observations of the difficulties faced by residents, farmers and traders who depend on the roads.

“During my visit to the constituency, I saw firsthand the difficulties residents, farmers, and traders go through on these roads, and I listened carefully to their concerns. Good roads are essential for development.”

He said roads play an important role in connecting communities to economic opportunities and essential services.

“They connect our people to opportunities, markets, schools, and healthcare facilities,” he said.

Dr Apaak acknowledged that major road projects fall under the responsibility of central government agencies but said the available resources should be used to address some of the immediate challenges confronting communities.

“While major road projects remain the responsibility of central government agencies, I believe it is important to utilise available resources to address some of the immediate challenges facing our communities.”

Push for major road projects

The MP also said he would continue engaging the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Ghana Highway Authority, Department of Feeder Roads and other relevant stakeholders to secure more comprehensive and sustainable road projects for Builsa South.

He is also pushing for faster progress on the Builsa South section of the Chuchuliga–Sandema–Wiaga–Fumbisi–Wiesi road, where he is encouraging the contractor to accelerate work.

The Doninga–Sandema Road, which is also reported to be in poor condition, is expected to receive attention, with a contractor expected to move to site.

Dr Apaak further said he was actively engaging the Minister for Roads and Highways to support the rehabilitation of feeder roads across Builsa South.
