New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has criticised the Mahama administration for not fulfilling its promises to cocoa farmers.

Speaking at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 3, Dr Bawumia said the government’s promise to increase the producer price of cocoa to GH¢6,500 had not been delivered.

“The promises to cocoa farmers to increase the cocoa price to GH¢6,500 has turned out to be a scam,” Dr Bawumia said.

He also criticised the government over its promises to introduce automatic posting for teachers and nurses and improve their conditions of service.

“The promise of automatic posting of teachers and nurses and the improvement in their conditions of service has turned out to be another scam,” he said.

Dr Bawumia further accused the government of failing to fulfil its promise to cancel the teacher licensure examinations and to pay customers affected by the collapse of Menzgold and other financial institutions.

“The promise to cancel teacher licensure examinations has proven to be another scam, just as the promise to pay all Menzgold customers and customers of all financial institutions which collapsed,” he said.

He added that the government’s much-touted Nkoko Nkitikiti programme had also failed to meet expectations.

Dr Bawumia described the issues as part of what he called the record of the NDC government after two years in office.

“This is the record of the NDC two years on. As our elders say, ‘Agoro no be so a na afri anopa’. Ghana deserves better,” he said.

He assured supporters that an NPP government, if elected in 2029, would draw lessons from its previous administration, including both its successes and challenges, to improve governance.

“I assure you that when the NPP assumes the reins of office in 2029, by the grace of God, we shall bring to bear the lessons of our successes and challenges to do a way better job in these and other areas than this NDC government is doing,” Dr Bawumia said.
