Donations keep pouring in from corporate Ghana in support of Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) and Joy FM’s relief initiative for victims of the June 3 disaster at a Goil Filling Station in Accra.
The disaster claimed the lives of 157 people and dozens have been left scarred for life after suffering burns when the explosion at the filling station followed the floods.
Next to support the initiative is the Association of Oil Marketing Companies.
The Association has donated 20,000 cedis in support of the relief initiative.
Speaking with Joy Business, Vice Chairman of the Association of Oil Marketing Companies, Emmanuel Manya Hughes, said they deemed it important to also help relieve the victims of their sufferings.
“We are all witnesses to the disaster that happened on June 3 and when it happened our focus was to find out what really the causes were and to try and put measures in place to forestall any further disaster like that.
“In the course of doing our homework, we noticed the good work that Joy FM was doing to help the victims. We are offering 20,000 cedis as our contribution to help the victims of the accident”, he added.
Earlier, the '89 year group of the Old Achimotan Association (OAA) donated 5,000 cedis in support of the initiative.

Producer of Joy FM's Drive Time Show, Edem Knight-Tey received the cheque from President of OAA, Akora Gladys Manteaw, Akora Theresa Akora Ayoade and Akora Daniel Adjokatcher
Universal Merchant Bank in partnership with Joy FM in June set up a fund in support of relief efforts for survivors of June 3 flood and fire disaster.
The Ghanaian-owned bank donated 50,000 cedis seed money in order to challenge 25 million Ghanaians to make a difference in the lives of those whose lives have been wrecked following the disaster.
