A renowned Lawyer, Ace Ankomah has stated that there is trouble in the Attorney General’s Department, reflected in the circumstances surrounding the payment of GHC51m judgement debt to NDC financier, Alfred Agbesi Woyome. Lawyer Ankomah cited several examples including earlier statements by the Deputy Attorney General, Ebow Barton Odro and the Chief State Solicitor that the case was a bad one, claims by Senior State Attorney, Seth Adadevor that the case was indefensible as well as the actions and inaction of arrested Chief State attorney Mr. Nerquaye-Tetteh, to buttress his assertion that all was not well with the Attorney General’s department. Mr. Ace Ankomah said this in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Friday in connection with the latest release issued by former Attorney General Martin Amidu, which questioned the strength and commitment of the legal team fighting to retrieve the judgment debt from Mr. Woyome. Mr. Ankomah, who is also a Lecturer at the Ghana Law School said, the question now is "what are they doing on the matter"? He stressed that “if you are a lawyer and you don’t agree with the matter at hand, you should politely decline and let your boss substitute you in the adjudication of the case". He said it was very critical for new Attorney General Benjamin Kunbuor to run a fine toothed comb over the prosecution team and reconstitute it if convinced the team was not up to the task, because some members of the team do not appear to be convinced the State has a case. Lawyer Ankomah is of the opinion that this is an administrative and professional decision faced by the current Attorney General, adding it is critical that Ghanaians, whose tax is used to pay officials of the A-G’s department, hold the officials accountable. He added that "I don’t think the entire Attorney General’s office; the civil division agree that we don’t have a case, so the Attorney General who represents the state should find people who believe in the case and who are competent enough and do the case".
