The Head of Strategy and Programmes at the 24-Hour Economy Plus Secretariat, Dr. Abdul-Nasser Alidu, has supported the Electoral Commission's (EC) decision to re-run the 2024 parliamentary election in 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North constituency.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, 5th July, Dr Alidu weighed in on the controversy surrounding the EC’s recent decision to re-run the parliamentary election in the 19 polling stations.

According to him, if logistical or procedural issues hinder a recount, the most prudent course of action would be to re-run the election to ensure transparency and public trust.
"I think the fair thing needs to be done. If the issue is that we can not verify the results, then let's do a re-run. Let us do the re-counting, but if the re-counting can not work, then let's do the re-run," he said.
The background to the electoral dispute dates back to December 2024, when chaotic scenes marred the collation of results. Supporters of the two main political parties, NPP and NDC, reportedly clashed at the constituency collation centre, resulting in the destruction of electoral materials and halting the counting process.
The EC's new decision to re-run the election in the 19 affected polling stations has been met with opposition from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), which has threatened legal action against the Commission.
Party officials argue that the EC had previously indicated it was ready to declare the results and was only awaiting adequate security protection. They now question the rationale behind the EC’s change of stance.
