The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has declared the party’s readiness for the upcoming parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
He expressed confidence in the NDC’s chances and dismissing the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) concerns as mere lamentations.
Speaking on JoyNews' the pulse on Wednesday, July 2, following the Electoral Commission’s decision to rerun the election in 19 polling stations.
Mr Gbande assured the public that the NDC stands fully prepared to participate in any election that is “lawfully, transparently, and credibly organised.”
“The NDC is prepared. We are ready for any lawfully organised, transparently organised, credible elections in this country,” he stated.
Gbande further reiterated his party’s faith in their parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, describing her as “credible” and “committed to public service.”
“We are willing and prepared to go back to that constituency, Ablekuma North, and preach to them to let them understand that our candidate is a credible one. She has no record of criminality. She is someone who engages with the people and is willing to serve. They should give her the opportunity to represent them,” he said.
Turning his attention to the opposition, Mr Gbande accused the NPP of attempting to subvert the democratic process during the original election and said their current unease reflects a fear of defeat.
“The NPP are only lamenting because they tried to steal that election and it didn’t work. They tried to manipulate the Electoral Commission, and it didn’t work. They tried to manipulate the police, and it didn’t work. The NPP is afraid to go for that election,” he alleged.
His comments come after the EC announced a rerun in Ablekuma North Constituency scheduled for Friday, 11 July 2025.
The constituency has been a flashpoint since the disputed outcome of the 2024 General Election, with both major parties claiming irregularities and manipulation attempts.
