Adom Brands of the Multimedia Group Limited will today, July 17, host the Western Regional edition of its “Democracy Is Not For Sale” forum at the Takoradi Library.
The event, scheduled for 4:00 p.m., will bring together citizens and key stakeholders to discuss the growing influence of money in Ghana’s democratic process.
The forum will provide a platform for open and interactive discussions on issues including vote buying, the rising cost of political participation, campaign financing, and the impact of illicit funding on elections.
The initiative seeks to deepen public understanding of the threats money politics poses to Ghana’s democracy while encouraging citizens to actively participate in conversations on electoral reforms.
Participants, including political actors, civil society organisations, youth groups, traditional leaders, and members of the public, are expected to share ideas and propose practical solutions to strengthen transparency and accountability in the country’s electoral system.
Organised by the JoyNews Impact Makers Foundation, the initiative seeks to address the growing concerns over vote buying, the high cost of political participation, and the increasing role of illicit financing in influencing electoral outcomes.
The Takoradi forum forms part of a nationwide campaign aimed at amplifying citizens’ voices, promoting issue-based politics and encouraging reforms to safeguard the integrity of Ghana’s elections.
It follows the Tamale dialogue, which marked the first of ten regional forums across the country. The series seeks to generate citizen-driven recommendations for a proposed Citizens’ Blueprint for Campaign Finance Reform while encouraging political leaders to commit to meaningful reforms.
As discussions get underway, the focus will remain on promoting citizen participation, highlighting the effects of money politics and building momentum for reforms that ensure democracy serves the interests of the people rather than the highest bidder.
