The captain of the Black Princesses, Afi Amenyeku, says leading the team to a gold medal at the African Games was a 'dream come true' moment for her.
The goalkeeper featured in all five of Ghana's games at the 2023 African Games as they beat Nigeria to gold on Thursday night at the Cape Coast Stadium.
Amenyeku recovered from a howler in the 23rd minute of the game which gifted the Super Falconets the lead against the Princesses.
However, Yusif Basigi's side recovered very well to turn things around with Tracey Twum and Abdulai Mukarama scoring in the second half and in extra time respectively to give Ghana the win and secure a fourth medal in the last four editions of the Games.
Speaking to Joy Sports, the captain of the side said: "It's a dream come for me as the captain; leading the team to gold because this is the first time captaining the team in a tournament."
"I am very happy to be able to win gold."
The shot-stopper was part of the Ghana team that also pipped Nigeria to the maiden edition of the WAFU B U-20 Girls' Cup which was held in Kumasi last year.
She made two saves during the penalty shootouts in the final of the encounter.
The Black Princesses will now turn their attention to the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.
