Air Tanzania has officially inaugurated its flight services to Ghana on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
This marks a strategic bridge between Dar es Salaam and Accra, with a stopover in Lagos, Nigeria.
The maiden flight, which touched down at about 5:00 PM GMT, was greeted with a traditional water salute and a high-profile ceremony to welcome the Tanzanian Minister for Transport, Prof. Makame Mabarawa and other Tanzanian officials aboard the flight.
In his address, Prof. Mbarawa was optimistic that the move would deepen relations between Ghana and Tanzania as well as facilitate trade between the two countries.
On his part, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, Ghana’s Transport Minister, highlighted the need for a borderless Africa, where Africans will be able to connect with other African countries with ease.
"Today marks another milestone for us, seeing our own from Africa, helping to connect our people, helping to make travel easy for our people”, he said.
Expressing his excitement at the operations of Air Tanzania in Ghana, he continued that "it gives pleasure that Air Tanzania has taken this step to commence its flight from Dar es Salaam to Accra and Lagos. It is our hope and belief that this will improve connectivity and create that atmosphere and further promote trade and tourism within ourselves."

Present at the ceremony was Ghana’s Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie. In an upbeat mood she emphasised the need for the two countries to build strong tourism ties.
"This contributes to the game changer in the culture and tourism ecosystem. We are now open for a direct pipeline for Tanzania and East Africans in general, to experience the ‘akwaba spirit’." She noted.
Air Tanzania's operation in Ghana brings its global footprint to 32 countries, a remarkable feat for an airline that underwent a massive revitalization program beginning in 2016.
The airline will undertake three weekly flights to Ghana, through Lagos, Nigeria. While the airline commits to providing safe, efficient and affordable air transport services, officials say adding Ghana to its destinations enforces Air Tanzania's quest to be a world-class airline of choice for connecting Africa.
