The Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh has given the assurance that the DCE for Ajumako Enyan Essiam and eight others who assaulted a police officer and freed a suspect from custody would be prosecuted.
This follows an advice from the Attorney-General’s Department for the persons involved in the act to be prosecuted.
The DCE, Ransford Kwesi Nyarko, and eight others were arrested a couple of months ago for allegedly assaulting a police officer at a duty post and freeing a suspect from Police custody.
After the DCE was granted bail, nothing has been heard of the case but the IGP at the commissioning of a conference hall for the police in Cape Coast assured his officers the suspects involved in the matter would face prosecution.
He explained that like all incidents, the matter has been investigated and the case was referred to the AG’s office for advice.
“The Attorney-General has advised that persons involved in the matter should be prosecuted. So, we are going to prosecute them,” he assured.
He added, “I say this to assure you that so long as you do your job well, the police administration will go every length to get justice for you. Be assured that justice would be served.”
The IGP appealed to the traditional authorities and residents in the region to support police officers who have been posted to the region.
He indicated, the officers need their support, encouragement and motivation in order to do their work.
“Do support them with information and I assure you that together we can fight crime, he added.
