Inspector-General of Police (IGP), James Oppong Boanuh, says that the increased crime rate in the country can be attributed to children not having fatherly figures in their lives.
In celebrating Father's Day, he said that children who grew up in broken homes tend to be deviants since they lacked fatherly care and guidance.
Due to the lack of male presence at home, the IGP said, children get involved in social vices.
"We need to nurture our children to be of good behaviour. Today, it is common to see fathers ignore their financial responsibilities. It is therefore not surprising that the attention given to Father’s Day is not as much as that of Mother’s Day,” the IGP said.
The IGP, in a speech read on his behalf by the Technical Director of the Ghana Police Service, COP Samuel Monney at the Wilmar Africa Father’s Day Awards Night and Dinner, advised fathers not to neglect their responsibilities.
COP Samuel Monney assured "Ghanaians that concrete security strategies have been put in place to address the rising rate of crime, particularly armed robbery.”
