Chairman of National Peace Council, Dr Ernest Adu Gyamfi says President Akufo Addo and the Presidential Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will on Friday, December 4, sign a peace pact.
Speaking to JoyNews' Kwesi Parker Wilson, Dr Gyamfi explained that the duo will commit to non-violence before, during and after the elections.
He also indicated that by signing the peace pact will ensure, the two presidential candidates agree to seek redress through the judicial process in the event of any electoral dispute. They are also expected to work towards eradicating vigilantism.
"We have been able to get a commitment from them and tomorrow morning, they are going to sign a peace pact at Mövenpick," he said.
Dr Gyamfi also indicated that the peace pact has been a long-standing tradition in every general election since 2012.
He is optimistic that getting the two leaders of the main political parties in the country to make the commitment will reduce the tension in various camps.
"We believe that once this is done, it is going to tone down some of the tension that we are seeing," he stated.
