Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin has declared his support for the campaign on road safety in order to educate the masses on the need to mitigate road carnage in the country.
In his quest to help curb the menace, Mr Bagbin promised to get Members of Parliament (MPs) to formulate policies to holistically deal with road crashes.
" As a country, we need to take a serious view of it, personally what you think I can do to support it I will do and I will also want to get the opportunity for the House to at least take some actions not just through our committees but dedicate a day to discuss it thoroughly and maybe come out with some proposal for government to implement."

Mr Bagbin said this when a delegation from JoyNews presented to him a copy of its latest Hotline documentary on road safety, 'Crushed'.
The documentary by Seth Kwame Boateng chronicled the horrific stories of road accident victims and the people living with the pain of road accidents.
Recounting his ordeal, the Speaker revealed that he had been involved in an accident on three different occasions but escaped unhurt.

Mr Bagbin believes that the wearing of a seatbelt saved his life in all the three separate “near-fatal accidents”.
He observed that though in all incidents he was in high-end four-wheel-drive vehicles, none of them could be recovered after the accidents.

The number of road accidents recorded in the country has become alarming with thousands of Ghanaians losing their lives.
In recent statistics by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service has revealed that a total number of 1,034 fatalities have been recorded on the road between January and April this year.
This chilling revelation means that the number of death recorded from road carnage is more than the number of persons that have succumbed to the deadly coronavirus since the country recorded its first two cases.
In a recent update by the Ghana Health services, Ghana has recorded a death toll of 780 as a result of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has hired one hundred Road Safety Inspectors to ensure compliance with road safety rules.
