The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched a large-scale security operation ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, deploying more than 1,000 officers across the region to maintain law and order.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Regional Headquarters, Regional Police Commander DCOP Osei Akoto Arthur said the increased visibility of personnel is meant to deter crime, ease holiday traffic, and ensure a swift response to emergencies.
“We are on the ground to ensure the free flow of vehicles and to deter criminals who often exploit crowded markets and festive gatherings,” he said. “Our presence is meant to reassure residents and visitors that we are ready to act.”
The commander also outlined key safety tips for the public, urging residents to avoid poorly lit or isolated areas at night and to remain alert while moving through busy shopping zones. He emphasised that public cooperation remains crucial to the operation's success.
“We urge all Ghanaians to take these precautions seriously,” he noted. “By working together, we can make this festive season peaceful for everyone.”
According to the Command, officers will maintain a strong presence at shopping centres, transportation terminals, and major public events. Additional patrols have been deployed to high-risk communities, with temporary checkpoints set up to intercept illegal firearms, stolen items and suspicious movements.
Personnel have been directed to conduct random spot checks and engage community members to gather intelligence and address concerns.
Citizens have been encouraged to report suspicious activity immediately. “Your vigilance helps us act faster and prevents crime before it happens,” DCOP Arthur added.
