The Axim Youth Resource Centre, which is part of the government’s 10 Youth Resource Centres project, is set to be completed and handed over by April.
The project seeks to provide ultra-modern facilities that will harness the talents of the youth across the country.

The Axim project was designated to the Western Region and was expected to be completed in just nine months.
However, after delays due to funding and land litigation, works on the project are far advanced and with estimated date of completion set for April.

The Axim Resource Centre includes a FIFA standard pitch, a mini-stadium which will seat 5,000 people, an 8-lane athletics track, a multi-purpose sports hall, which will have a tennis and volleyball courts, handball and lawn tennis courts as well as a court for basketball.
Seats have so far been fixed at the centre with the Presidential box, the media box and control rooms all ready. The changing rooms for the away and home teams are also available including washrooms.

According to the contractor, the works on the tartan tracks should be completed by March 25 with the project being handed over to the National Youth Authority in April.
The Chief Executive Officer of NYA, Pius Enam Hadzide reveals that works on the Axim Resource Centre so far cost about 18 millions cedis.
“Facilities like the hostel and the underground water storage were not originally part of the project scope so this will cost more than originally budgeted. At present audit, we have spent close to 18 million Ghana cedis on this project. For the six projects we have spent approximately $11.4 million” he said.
The update follows JoySports’ ‘Bush Resource Centres’ series that highlighted some of the projects that have been abandoned.
