Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has commended firefighters of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) for their exemplary work during the recent Kumasi market fire.
The devastating blaze, which broke out in the early hours of Friday, 21 March in the Adum area of the Ashanti Region, led to the destruction of numerous shops and properties, leaving many traders in distress.
During his visit to the affected area on Tuesday, 25 March, Dr Bawumia observed the swift and effective response by the fire service.
He described their actions as a “yeoman’s job”, noting that their prompt intervention helped to contain the fire and prevent a further loss of property.
His commendation highlighted the importance of a well-coordinated emergency response in such critical moments.
In addition to his praise for the Ghana Fire Service, Dr Bawumia expressed his heartfelt sympathies to the affected traders.
He assured them of his continued support as they endeavoured to rebuild their businesses.
“I understand the pain and losses you have suffered, and it is my sincere hope that the support provided will assist you in recovering from this tragic incident,” he stated.
The incident has once again underscored the challenges faced by traders in major commercial hubs, as well as the vital role played by emergency services in mitigating such disasters.
The former Vice President presented an undisclosed amount of money to support the traders to rebuild their businesses.
