Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, have booked a tenth successive qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after the comeback win over the Central African Republic on Thursday.
Since 2000, the Black Stars have failed to qualify for the AFCON once, reaching the final twice in 12 tournaments.
The last time the four-time African champions failed to qualify for the AFCON was back in 2004.
Benin and Rwanda qualified ahead of the Black Stars after Ghana lost the final game of qualifying in Rwanda.
Chris Hughton’s side came from a goal down to win 2-1 against the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in the final matchday of qualifying.
The visitors took an early lead through Louis Mafouta but Mohammed Kudus levelled the score for Ghana in the 43rd minute from an incredible free kick.
Substitute Antoine Semenyo put in a perfect pass for fellow sub Ernest Nuamah to tap in for the winner in the 88th minute.
Hughton came in for the last four games of qualifying, winning two and drawing the other two.
