Bryant University has signalled plans to build a long-term partnership with Ghana in business, education and sports, using the upcoming FIFA World Cup as a starting point.
With the Ghana national football team expected to camp and train at the university, officials say the tournament could open the door to deeper collaboration between Ghanaian and American students through exchange programmes and joint opportunities across several sectors.

Speaking at a stakeholder engagement in Accra on Monday, Edi Tebaldi, Vice President for Strategy and Partnerships and Professor of Economics at Bryant University, said the institution is looking beyond football.

“We are here to establish a foundation for academic and economic collaboration that is sustainable and mutually beneficial.”

Dr Tebaldi said Ghana’s youthful and talented population makes the country a strong partner in the university’s broader mission to develop young people to drive economic growth.

He noted that Bryant University has trained a number of Ghanaian students over the years, many of whom are contributing to the country’s socio-economic development through the skills and knowledge acquired during their studies.

He added that deeper collaboration could help position Ghana as a technology and industrial hub. He said the university’s multidisciplinary model prepares graduates to lead in emerging industries and innovation centres worldwide.

“By linking the emerging industries of Ghana with the innovation hubs of Rhode Island and the academic expertise of Bryant University, we are building a partnership that will thrive for decades to come.”
As part of the visit, Dr Tebaldi said the university’s delegation will engage with selected universities, businesses, corporate organisations, the Ghana Football Association and government agencies to explore pathways to formalise the partnership.

He also thanked the Ghana Football Association for choosing Bryant University as the Black Stars’ camping base for the World Cup.

Augustine Boadi, a student-athlete at the university, said he is ready to support the development of sports in Ghana, especially football, through collaboration with the GFA.
Liz Tanner, Executive Director of Ocean State 2026, said the organisation is committed to ensuring comfort and hospitality for the national team during its stay at the university.
