The tech scene in Ghana took a significant leap forward with the inaugural Demo Fridays event, held on Friday, June 28, 2024.
Organised by the Building Bytes podcast and supported by MEST Africa, this groundbreaking event brought together startups, tech teams, early adopters, and tech professionals in a vibrant showcase of innovation.
Inspired by the historic Homebrew Computer Club meeting and the rapid growth of the local tech market across various sectors, Demo Fridays aims to create a platform to share insights, ignite collaborations and spark innovation that offers a unique opportunity for founders, customers, professionals, enablers, regulators, and investors to converge, share insights, and collaborate.
The event featured an impressive lineup of demos and insights sharing from startups including products such as USSDhub a drag-and-drop platform for building USSD apps, Uzuri Space a virtual reality startup helping artists showcase their work, Bare-connect an e-commerce builder for businesses and creators and Worklyn a software helping busy professionals get the best of their productive hours.
A highlight of the day was the panel discussion on "Building For the Ghanaian Market," featuring esteemed speakers such as Irina Oduro, CEO of VerifiBuy (formerly Kudigo); Benjamin Sackey, Product professional at Peach Payments; and (TheDumbTechGuy), a software engineer at Spry. Their diverse perspectives provided invaluable insights into developing products tailored to the local market.
At the event Building Bytes introduced its newsletter, Tech Leaders Brief which updates tech CEOs and professionals so they are always in the loop of activities and insights in the tech ecosystem across Ghana.
Participants praised the event for its inclusive atmosphere, where they could learn new skills, share knowledge, and explore potential collaborations. The success of the first Demo Friday has set a high bar, with attendees eagerly anticipating the next event scheduled for September.
The Building Bytes team expressed their excitement about involving more startups and tech teams in future editions, promising even more groundbreaking insights and networking opportunities.
Demo Fridays have indeed cemented their place as a cornerstone event for Ghana’s burgeoning tech community, driving forward the spirit of insights sharing and collaboration for innovation.
