The recent performances of Declan Rice and Moisés Caicedo have reignited the debate over who is the best defensive midfielder in the English Premier League.
Rice, who joined Arsenal from West Ham for £105 million in 2023, has been pivotal to the Gunners’ title charge this season.
The 26-year-old has been instrumental in Arsenal’s set-piece strength, scoring two goals and providing two assists so far. His creativity and defensive stability are among the key reasons the Gunners sit top of the Premier League table.
Caicedo, who made a £115 million move from Brighton to Chelsea in the same year, played a crucial role in the Blues’ Club World Cup triumph earlier this summer.
The 24-year-old currently leads the Premier League in interceptions and ranks second in tackles. The Ecuadorian has also contributed vital goals with his latest coming in a win against reigning champions Liverpool.
