The Chief Executive and Founder of the CEO Network Ghana, Mr. Ernest De-Graft Egyir, has donated GH₵50,000 to support JOYNEWS’ anti-illegal mining project dubbed #NoToGalamsey.
Artisanal gold mining, also known as 'galamsey', while mostly illegal, has become lucrative in Ghana. However, it destroys the environment, causes deforestation and pollutes the water, air, and the soil through the release of toxic chemicals.
Over the years, JOYNEWS, in many documentaries, has highlighted this impact and the struggles of local communities.
The latest documentary on the crisis by JOYNEWS titled “Destruction for Gold” revealed the widespread destruction of forest reserves and water bodies across Ghana despite the many state efforts to deal with it.
Mr. Egyir said the donation would help support the work being done to highlight the problem and find lasting solutions.
Acting CEO of the Multimedia Group, Mr. Ken Ansah, said the JOY Brands are committed to humanitarian projects that impact society.
