The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has called on the youth to look beyond monthly salaries and take active ownership of their social security journey.
Speaking at the 60th Anniversary celebration of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), held under the theme “A Legacy of Service”, he stressed that securing the future begins during the youthful ages, not in old age.
“You don’t prepare for the future when you’re older. You prepare for it when you’re young. Social security is your right—and your responsibility,” he stated.
The event brought together a distinguished audience, including Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Vice President of the Republic, as well as representatives from organised labour, the judiciary, and the pension industry.
Mr. Debrah also talked about the deeper meaning of social security beyond pensions.
“Social security is not just about pensions,” he noted. “It is a promise, a promise that your hard work today will not be forgotten tomorrow.”
Reflecting on SSNIT’s six-decade legacy, he praised the institution’s transformation into a critical pillar of social protection in Ghana, one that restores dignity to pensioners and inspires public trust in the country’s retirement framework.
“A true legacy is not in numbers, but in lives touched. The peace of mind we give today builds the confidence of a nation tomorrow,” he added.
He also commended SSNIT for embracing digital platforms to enhance service delivery and transparency, while advocating for sustained reforms and innovation in line with Ghana’s broader development goals.
The event concluded with a call to action.
The Chief of Staff said, “This milestone must drive us forward by deepening our culture of service and strengthening public confidence in our social security system.”
