The chief of Garu, Naba Akuntam Awuni, has appealed to government to provide the police in the area with a vehicle to enable personnel to discharge their duties efficiently.
He made the appeal when Mr. Alhassan Samari, Upper East Regional Minister, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of Police Ofosu Mensah-Gyeabour, Upper East Regional Police Commander, and Lieutenant Col Irvin Ayiteey, Commander of the Airborne Force, toured the conflict zones on Friday.
Naba Akuntam Awuni explained that lack of transport for the police was hindering their work as they have to always look for motorcycles to perform their duties.
He said the area was too big and more so a commercial centre where people come from Tamale, Kumasi, Bolgatanga and elsewhere to transact business.
Naba Akutam Awuni said the police in the area therefore needed a means of transport to patrol the town to maintain law and order to enable the people to go about their normal duties.
The chief assured the minister and his entourage that they had already spoken to the youth and would continue to talk to them to desist from causing conflicts.
Mr Mensay-Gyeabour said the chief's request would be forwarded to appropriate headquarters and appealed to the youth to lay down their weapons and help the security agencies to restore peace in the area.
