President John Mahama has reaffirmed the vital role of chieftaincy institutions in the nation’s governance, describing them as the enduring foundation of leadership and stability in Ghana.
Speaking during his "Thank You" tour in the Western Region, the President highlighted the significant contributions of traditional leaders in maintaining peace, preserving culture, and promoting development.
Addressing chiefs, clergy, and residents, he stated, "Our chiefs have long been the custodians of peace, our culture, and our development. In the most challenging times, you have stood firm in safeguarding the integrity of our society."

He expressed his deep gratitude for the steadfast commitment of chiefs, particularly in difficult times, to ensuring the country’s stability.
The President also called on traditional leaders to take an active role in the ongoing constitutional review process.
"I am calling on you once again to be active participants in this process. I hope that when the conference takes place, the chiefs will fully engage," he urged.
He further stressed his belief that governance structures should reflect the country’s rich traditions, with chiefs playing a more prominent and meaningful role in national development.
"This review process will ensure that traditional authorities are not merely symbolic figures, but key partners in decision-making at all levels of government," he concluded.
