Asante Kotoko goalkeeper, Fredrick Asare, believes the club will kick start a new era when they face Hearts of Oak in the Democracy Cup.
The two teams will meet at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday, July 17, in the inaugural edition of the cup initiative by the Parliament of Ghana.
The game will also be the third meeting between the two teams following their encounters in the Ghana Premier League.
Hearts have clinched the maiden edition of trophy initiatives that they have faced Kotoko but Asare is confident that trend will end on Wednesday.
Kotoko have parted ways with 21 players since the end of the season but the goalkeeper is still optimistic about his team's chances.
"It's a new era. Players are out and new players are in. As the coach said, we've trained very well," said Asare.
"What has happened [with Hearts winning the first of any cup trophies] is something of the past and [today] the narrative is going to change."
Before the game between Hearts and Kotoko, there will be a curtain-raiser between a Parliament select against former Black Stars players.
The winner of the game between Kotoko and Heart will get the opportunity to face MLS side DC United.
