A burgeoning author, Robert Klah has called for a remodeling of the country’s educational curriculum to enable it unearth the innate talents of students.Speaking on Multi TV’s current affairs show, pm: EXPRESS, Mr. Klah who authored the book “What the Schools Fail to Teach About Education” argued that the current educational curriculum is devoid of talent development courses thus making it impossible for young people to nurture and develop their talents in fields which are of interest to them.According to him, job satisfaction is minimal for a lot of people since they find themselves working in areas where their interests do not lie hence the resultant effect is low productivity.“People are working but are not satisfied” he stressed adding that in this global village where the competition lies outside with a wide scope, it behooves authorities to structure educational curriculum with talent development courses in mind as presently “basic education does not unearth the strengths of students”.Arguing a point based on the principles of shared vision, Mr. Klah noted that “none of us go to school and are taught the purpose of education. We go to school and we are told to go through the educational system but we don’t really know what the schools are trying to attain” adding that this is a terrible way of educating someone. He cited as a huge flaw the inability of one to know the purpose of education. “If you don’t know what education is, how would you know whether you have attained it or not?” he asked noting that it would be impossible to hold the schools accountable if they are deviating from their task of educating the people if those supposed to be educated do not even know what it is they have to know.He thus suggested that education be taught as a whole subject.Explaining what education is, Mr. Klah said the word which is derived from the Latin word “ēdūcō” and translates as ‘draw from within and lead out’ means “that at the end of the entire process of education, the thing that should be standing out is the fact that your talent, whatever gift is in you has been identified and developed into a world class talent relevant to the world”.Citing achievers like Oprah Winfrey, Michael Essien and Michael Jackson, Robert Klah stressed that they followed and developed the talents within to be able to optimize its utilization and called on education policy makers to weave the curriculum around talent realization.
