The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev Stephen Yenusom Wengam, has issued a stern charge to Christians in public service to maintain an uncompromising stance on the truth, regardless of the pressures of their office.

Delivering a sermon at a special thanksgiving service in honour of the Clerk of Parliament, Mr Ebenezer Ahumah Dzietror, Rev Wengam reminded the newly elevated official that his position is a divine assignment that requires "absolute diligence, dedication, and commitment".

The service, held at the Jehovah Shammah Assembly of God in Accra, was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including the Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.
A mandate of grace and humility
Rev Wengam emphasised that Mr Dzietror’s rise to the position of Clerk was an "act of God" and cautioned that sustained excellence in such a high-pressure role would only be possible through divine mercy and grace.

He urged the Clerk, who is also a pastor within the church, to lead with a spirit of humility and the fear of God.
“All our beliefs, rules and practices flow from the Bible. Assemblies of God does not teach its members to go into public service and live anyhow but to follow the dictates of the Bible and the very solid doctrine of the church,” Rev Wengam asserted.
The Bible as the 'Supreme Constitution'
Addressing the broader role of the church in national development, the General Superintendent described the Bible as the "supreme, real constitution" of the Assemblies of God—which he noted is currently the largest Pentecostal movement in the world. He made it clear that a Christian's primary allegiance in public office must be to the principles of scripture.

Rev Wengam further reminded Mr Dzietror that his conduct in Parliament would reflect directly on his faith and his denomination.
“So you must uphold the virtues of integrity, honesty and Christlikeness,” the General Superintendent added, noting that the Clerk serves not in his own name, but as a representative of Christ within the legislative body.
Pledge of Christian service
In a brief response, Mr Ebenezer Dzietror expressed his gratitude for the spiritual guidance and reaffirmed his commitment to the values of the church.

He pledged to uphold his Christian beliefs, values, and principles throughout his tenure as the Clerk of Parliament, ensuring that his administration is marked by the same integrity demanded by the church leadership.
The ceremony concluded with a special prayer session led by the church leadership for the Speaker of Parliament and the legislative staff, seeking divine protection and wisdom for the leadership of the country during the 2026 legislative year.
